A very usual thing nowadays, you could have seen on your email id which tells you that you have won some random competition which you never had applied to BUT still you won and to get this cash prize you need to click the link and that's where the scam begins.

It's very common for my Gmail account too as I get tons of emails like this including different types in it like free insurance, gifts, won cash prizes, etc

UNTIL

Today, I got this mail before my lunch whose name was the founder of the startup with which I was working and as fake one he asked me, "Are you free..?"

At first, I thought why he should go for the mailing option as he can msg me directly through WhatsApp BUT then I replied saying,"Yes I am" AND I realized the mail id of that fake one was very different then I got the point which got confirmed by him only when he replied me with a request of an urgent need of the money with his bank details and UPI numbers and was demanding around 25,000 Rupees...

scam mails

Honestly, I found that very funny, the way he was confidently asking me this big amount with every account detail possible...

Then, of course, I informed the startup founder about this and he told me that our all team members got this scam mail, maybe the fake one took all mail ids from Linkedin where he sent all emails to employees of our company...

I really found this scam so useless and so not a well-researched scam as he thought, employees, can't even ask him directly through contact on WhatsApp rather than mailing...

Of course he didn't know we had BUT again I thought this was so careless scam as he actually sent all the details of his bank account number and actual UPI which was Whatsapp number in the mail and of course, it was very easy to figure out his location which was somewhere in Mumbai only and I saw his profile on Whatsapp too...

SO, in the end, I reported the mail and at some point, I thought to play along with him to catch him somehow BUT it can be dangerous too incase he can have more details other than my Mail id and also these people have several mobile numbers which they just cut off after the scam so not worth the time...

I know that many people know about these scams except a few who get manipulated and scammed by these people easily so never ever click any random link in the email unless you know the source of the mail is legit...

SO, it was unexpected but a bit funny to see these scammers
